Fall’s Here and Winter’s Coming
We spent a wonderful morning out and about with the kids. First, we drove down to Eden High School to watch Eden’s annual volleyball tournament. I’ve coached many of the kids on different teams, and work with
a number of the coaches in the NFVB club. In addition, three of the other board members for the club coach local high schools and were competing. It’s always a fun tournament, and I like exposing our kids more and more to the sport.
The kids were excellent, sitting in the bleachers, playing and eating their snacks. Sometimes, I am just so surprised by their good and patient (must come from Melodia) behaviors. After watching a couple of matches, we took the kids to McDonald’s. McKinley had asked earlier, “can we go to a restaurant, daddy.” So, why not?
After McD’s, we headed home. It’s a cool fall day out (about 55 degrees), but sunny. Mami was in need of a nap and Izzabelle was happy to join her. Izzy’s had a couple of great days lately (great for us). She’s been sleeping 5-hour stretches. She seems to sleep a lot longer when she’s in our bed, all comfy, cozy. I don’t know if she’s growing, a little under the weather, or both. M says she has active and inactive days. Yesterday and today both seem like inactive days back to back. But Wil and McKinley have both had runny noses, so she could have it, too.
Wil and McKinley and I stayed outside. They wanted to ride their bikes. The kids like riding their bikes and the wagon. So we took a lap around the apartment complex. After that, I put them in the wagon, and decided, instead of lapping the complex like we normally do, to take them up the road. We live just across the freeway from a quiet, dead-end road (the vb facility is on that road). So I took them for a 1.5 mile walk across the freeway and down the road, then back. McKinley fell asleep in the wagon just as we approached home. So I had to readjust her for more comfortable sleeping (instead of that jerky, nodding off we all often experience).
Right now, everyone in the house is asleep, everyone but me. Go figure. I’m online catching up on emails, doing some work, and writing this post. Tonight’s my break, for the first time in about a year, I’m heading over to my colleague’s house to play dominoes. Three of us (from Medaille) have gotten together often to play dominoes together. This last year has been tough, so this is our first meeting in close to a year. Other years, we’ve met almost monthly. Lately, we’re on the “too busy with our lives” cycle. But I do enjoy the guys and our dominoes. It’s a lot of fun. Both of them have been professors at Medaille for over 20 years. So it’s the young kid - aka “Junior faculty” with the old”er” pros! I love it.

Believe it or not, we are feeling fall in the air here in Arizona too; no more 100 degree days. The evenings are beautiful and we are using our patio again to sit and enjoy the weather.
When we see the pictures of the children, we long to give them a big hug and talk to them. So, we count on you to do it for us!
We miss you all and love you!
