Lately, I am really ITCHING to get a couple of aquariums for the kids to use as terrariums and to go to the local swampy wetlands to search for salamanders, frogs, and such to fill them.
Sounds funny, I know. But we’re always looking for bonding things for the kids. My winter idea (as ideas seem to come to me at times when I have to wait, lol) has been the terrarium thing, and going out every few weeks to collect new critters or decorations.
You know, something the kids can enjoy. They love getting in puddles and mud and frog hunting, etc. We have a wetlands just across the street near the volleyball facility I coach at. I sometimes take the kids over there in their mudboots to play in the puddles.
Tuesday (2/10/08), we had a warm 50-degree day. All the snow melted, creating lots of puddles, so I took the kids over to this same spot.
I keep thinking I can’t wait until we can start turning over rocks and finding critters together. lol. We’ve taken them into a few petshops lately to look at terrariums, setup materials, and all the different pet shop critters. They always love that trip.
At any rate, I’m thinking of getting an aquarium for each kid to decorate and fill whenever we go critter hunting. You know, catch and release (2 weeks later). We’ll see if we actually do it. But it’s my winter idea for the spring.
So anyway, that’s a little glimpse at us lately. We haven’t posted in a while, so I wanted to slip something in.
